Gujarat shocker: Fake Instagram accounts used to circulate nude images of 2 women; probe on
AHMEDABAD: A college student from Navrangpura and a nurse from Ranip on Sunday filed separate police complaints alleging that fake Instagram accounts have been created in their names and their nude photographs have been shared on social media. Their complaints stated that the pictures had been sent to their friends and family via messaging platforms.
In the first case, a 24-year-old student pursuing a postgraduate degree alleged that multiple fake Instagram profiles were created using her identity between March and May this year.
According to her complaint, a friend alerted her after spotting an account carrying her name with a nude image as the display picture. The complaint stated that she later found other fake profiles sharing nude photographs and reels linked to her.
The student told police that one of the account operators sought to be her ‘follower’ and threatened to send her nude photographs to her contacts if she did not accept his request. The accounts were subsequently deactivated.
She approached the cybercrime helpline before filing a formal complaint with Navrangpura police.
In the second case, a 26-year-old nurse alleged that a fake Instagram account sent her nude photographs to her husband and friends. She told police that unknown social media users had been sending objectionable messages to her for several years, leading to disputes in her personal life.
According to the complaint, the harassment continued even after her remarriage in 2024. The complaint stated that in March this year, her husband received messages from a fake Instagram account containing her nude images. Similar content was also sent to some of her friends, the complaint stated.
The woman said she did not know the person or persons behind the account and suspected that someone had created the profile solely to harass her. She had earlier submitted a complaint through the cybercrime portal and later approached Ranip police.
