95.08% Gujarat businesses migrate to GST regime

AHMEDABAD: With the first month of GST implementation ending on July 31, state GST offices have been taking stock of the number of business taxpayers who have migrated to the new tax regime. Andhra Pradesh topped the chart with 95.15% businesses complying with GST, while

is at the second spot with 95.08% businesses having migrated to GST regime within the month.

According to records of

department, the state has over 5,23,283 business taxpayers. Of these, said officials, 4,97,537 or 95.08% have migrated to GST regime within July 31. GST officials said that they have also started meeting dealers and traders in person to inform them about the new tax regime.

“Our efforts are on to reach out to the dealers and traders. We have started meeting them at their doorsteps. We will continue this exercise for a month so that almost all taxpayers can be covered,” said an official.

Officials said that textile industrialists and dealers who were opposing GST have started responding well and 65% of them have already registered and obtained GST numbers. The state tax department has so far conducted 369 outreach programmes covering nearly 80,000 people. Besides, the department has also started 57 GST felicitation centres at its units across the state. The department has started two felicitation centres at
