Vadodara: The number of nominations filed for various posts for Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) elections this time around may have reduced considerably, but the association may still witness an intense battle for power. Both, management and the Opposition camp, are gearing up for the elections despite many believing it to be a one-sided affair.
Close to 115 forms were distributed for BCA elections this year of which 75 candidates filed nominations for various positions, ranging from vice-president to managing committee members.
Of these, nine withdrew their nominations on Monday evening, the last day for withdrawal. A D Vyas, who had filed nomination for the post of vice-president and managing committee, withdrew his candidature. Now, Narayan Satham is the only candidate for vice-president's post from the opposition camp. "I withdrew for personal reasons. No one from the management asked me to withdraw my form," Vyas said.
A BCA official from current president Chirayu Amin's camp said that last year BCA had received 118 nominations for the elections, of which many withdrew. About 40 members had filed nominations from Amin's panel and 28 from Lele's panel that time. This year, 43 candidates have filed nominations from Amin's panel while 23 are contesting from Lele's panel.
With no opponent against him, Amin will again win the post of BCA president and Amul Jikar fighting for managing committee (patron), too, will win uncontested. This is second year in the row that Jikar will win uncontested.
Those contesting for the vice-president's post include Narayan Satham, Samarjitsinh Gaekwad and Sanjay Patel. Cecil Williams, Snehal Parikh and Sachin Dalvi are contesting for secretary's post and Arun Gandhi and Jayesh Verma will contest for treasurer's post. For managing committee (life-member), Arun Gandhi, Bhupendra Patel, Cecil Williams, Dashrath Pardesi, Jayesh Verma, Parag Patel, Sanjay Patel, Snehal Mehta, Sudhir Parab and Suhas Sapre are in the fray.
For posts the of managing committee (ordinary), Amar Petiwale, Anand Indulkar, C R Mohite, Mohan Karlekar, Pranav Amin, Rajah Fansalkar, Ravindra Hota, Sudhir Nimbalkar and Vivek Dongre are in the fray.
