GANDHINAGAR: Some forty prominent
doctors
from the state, including Padma Shri recipients cardiologist Dr Tejas Patel and neurologist Dr Sudhir Shah, along with opthalmologist Dr Ashish Nagpal, joined the
Gujarat
BJP on Tuesday.
This is perhaps the first time such large number of doctors of national and international repute, known for their contributions to medicine, have joined the Gujarat BJP.
“In the past we have seen Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel take the state and country to newer heights. Both were from Gujarat. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, also sons of Gujarat, are leading the country in a new direction.
They have resolved the 72-year-old problem of Jammu and Kashmir. Our community is very impressed by their decisive leadership and we have decided to formally join the BJP,” said Dr Tejas Patel.
These Gujarat-based doctors joined the party in the presence of Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani.
“More than
40 prominent
doctors today formally joined the BJP by filling in forms and giving missed calls from their phones on the party’s membership drive number,” said Vaghani.
