"Don’t forget to file ITR for AY 2022-23 before 31st July 2022. File today and avoid the stress of filing last minute!," the Income Tax department tweeted on Saturday.

According to reports, an extension might be considered by the Income Tax department. The ITR deadline has been consistently extended in the last couple of years.

Earlier this month, the department said that there are glitches in the tax portal because of irregular traffic.

Some of the types of ITR forms are ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4 and ITR-5. Individuals need to make sure they are filing the correct form applicable to them.

Although income tax laws allow individuals to file ITR after the deadline passes, a penalty between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 might be imposed on salaried individuals.
