State’s Silicon Valley idea yielding results: Survey
Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government’s push towards having Bengal’s own ‘Silicon Valley’ seems to have paid off as the hiring outlook is fairly positive in the state’s IT sector compared to that of last year, revealed a recent survey.
The survey, conducted by Genius Consultants, pegged the hiring growth of IT sector in the state at nearly 13%, second only to that of manufacturing and engineering. The recruitment growth for the latter has been projected at 13.5%.
However, the overall recruitment scenario for eastern zone, including West Bengal, is yet to pick up, it said. As many as 881 corporates across 15 states in India were reviewed.
Speaking on the survey, Genius Consultants founder and director Rajendra Prasad Yadav told TOI, “Companies in the southern states still top the hiring charts with a projection of 32.5%, closely followed by those in western India predicting a 30.1% rise in recruitment over the last year. Eastern India comes at a distant fourth with a forecast of only 15.9% growth in hiring, after the northern zone that has a projection of 21.4%. Bengal’s prospects, though, are increasing as per the survey of 115 firms here. The Bengal government’s active participation in developing the infrastructure and business in the state has been a major boost,” Yadav said.
However, he added that there are very few companies here with limited recruitment capacity as opposed to Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR.
Several new health and pharma facilities have added to Bengal’s hiring projection, the survey revealed adding that BFSI, health and allied services have a hiring projection of 12% here. The pan-India survey revealed e-commerce has the largest growth at 15%-16%.
Speaking about the attrition rate in corporates, Yadav said, “Attrition will be at an average of 7-8% across India.”
