Galfar inducts Ali's kin as directors

The annual general meeting of the shareholders of Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG (Galfar) appointed P Mohamed Ali's son Mohiuddin Mohamed Ali and son-in-law Raiz Basheeruddin as directors of the company.

KOCHI: The annual general meeting of the shareholders of Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG (Galfar) appointed P Mohamed Ali's son Mohiuddin Mohamed Ali and son-in-law Raiz Basheeruddin as directors of the company.
Ali had stepped down as vice-chairman and MD of the Muscat-bsed company on January 14 after the Court of First Instance in Muscat convicted him in a graft case which involved a senior official of Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO).

In a meeting held on Wednesday in Muscat, Galfar's new board of directors has re-elected Sheikh Salim Said Hamad Al Fannah Al Araimi as chairman and Sheikh Salim Abdullah Saeed Badr Al Rawas as vice-chairman of the company. However, the position of managing director is remaining vacant.
Mohiuddin, aged 27, is currently serving as a project engineer in Muscat.
He also serves as director in two Indian companies: Mfar Hotels and Resorts and Active Char Products.
According to the prospectus filed during the initial public offering (IPO) of Galfar at Muscat Securities Market, the only bourse in Oman, Mohiuddin didn't directly hold any shares of the company. However he was holding 49% shares of British Virgin Islands-registered PMA International Ltd, which in turn held 5% of the share capital of Galfar.

Basheeruddin, who got roots in Panthalam, Kerala, is currently a director in three Indian companies: Furnace Fabrica India, Mfar Constructions and Blue Opel Developers and Consulting Services.
At the meeting of nine-member director board of Galfar, Mohiuddin was chosen a member of the human resources committee while Basheeruddin took the additional responsibility as a member of the audit committee.
