Two Indian jugaadwalas, Hera and Pheri, discussing the growing global mistrust of China and Chinese products, and how they can take advantage of it.
Hera: With people saying that not only did the coronavirus pandemic begin in China, but that their sarkar tried to hide it, a lot of people will stop buying Chinese products, which could be a jolly good for us in India, as our own PM Modiji has said.
Pheri: You mean India should takeover producing all those things like cheap mobile phones, and TV sets, and whatnot that are being produced in China and sold to everyone in the world?
Hera: Right. And donât forget all those Diwali lights, and the puja images of Laxmi and Ganesh which are also produced in China and sold to us.
Pheri: Thatâs one heck of a lot of stuff to produce. Do you think India can produce all of that, Diwali lights, Laxmi, Ganesh, and all?
Hera: Never mind whether or not India can produce all that â we, you and I, can produce it.
Pheri: You and I produce all that? How so?
Hera: Simple. We do it by doing what weâre best at doing, which is jugaad.
Pheri: Jugaad? How can you and I produce all those cheap phones, and TV, not to mention the Diwali lights, and Laxmi, and Ganesh, out of just jugaad, when between the two of us we donât have a factory, or a workshop, or anything in which to produce even a sausage?
Hera: We donât have to have a factory, or a workshop, or anything, to do our jugaad with. All we have to do is take all the Chinese maal, cheap phones, TVs, Diwali lights, the works, stick âMade in Indiaâ labels on all of it and sell it as bona fide desi goods.
Pheri: Hey, thatâs real jugaad. But thereâs just one small problem. How do we make the âMade in Indiaâ labels?
Hera: We donât. We get China to also make the âMade in Indiaâ labels.
Pheri: Awesome. Thatâs the ultimate in jugaad âŠ
