Affordable cars with automatic gearbox under Rs 6 lakh: New Tata Tiago, Alto & more
Automatic cars have become increasingly accessible in India, with several models now available for under Rs 6 lakh. The shift comes as rising traffic congestion and growing demand for convenience encourage more buyers to opt for two-pedal vehicles. Until a few years ago, automatic transmissions were largely limited to higher-priced cars, forcing budget-conscious buyers to choose manual gearboxes. However, manufacturers have expanded automatic options into the entry-level segment, making the technology more affordable.
A key factor behind this trend is the wider adoption of Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology. AMTs offer the ease of an automatic gearbox while keeping costs relatively low, helping manufacturers introduce automatic variants at competitive prices. While AMTs may not match the refinement of conventional automatic transmissions such as torque converters or CVTs, they remain a practical option for everyday urban commuting and stop-and-go traffic conditions. In this article, let’s take a look at the most affordable automatic cars currently available in India for under Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom).
