Singappen teams begin operations in Trichy district
Trichy: Police on Wednesday began operations of Singappen special force teams across the district. A total of four teams will patrol Trichy city while two teams will cover rural areas. The primary objective of the force is to ensure the safety and security of women and children. Chief minister C Joseph Vijay inaugurated the initiative in Chennai on Tuesday.

City police commissioner N Kamini and district superintendent of Police Dongare Pravin Umesh flagged off the special teams and vehicles at their respective offices. In the city, north and south divisions will have two teams each. A team will patrol from 7am to 2pm and another from 2pm till midnight in each division.

Each team consists of a woman sub-inspector, two woman constables and a male driver. The city police received two new vehicles to support the four teams while the district police received one vehicle.

The Singappen personnel will have dedicated navy blue shirt paired with khaki trousers. They are equipped with body cameras, batons, and transceivers. Their vehicles are fitted with GPS.


R Vadivel, the assistant commissioner of police, crime branch, will act as the supervising nodal officer for the teams in the city, while S Sandhya, the deputy superintendent of police (DSP-DCB), will be the nodal officer for the rural teams.
