Man arrested in Bengaluru for stealing and selling rental car

Bengaluru: A 32-year-old man from Kannur, Kerala, was arrested on charges of driving away and selling a car listed on self-drive rental platform Zoomcar in April.
According to police, vehicle owner Syed Khadir Pasha, a resident of Padarayanapura, listed his Maruti Swift on the rental platform. Misheal Shafeeq rented the car on April 24 but failed to return it at the scheduled time, subsequently cutting off all communication with the owner.
Police located and arrested Shafeeq on the city outskirts. He confessed to have driven the vehicle to Kerala, where he sold it after fixing a fake licence plate number and removing FASTag and GPS. An investigating officer said they have sent a team to Kerala to trace and seize the car.
