NDA, BJP, UDF lead as counting progresses across four states
Votes are being counted across four state assemblies, and the early picture shows clear frontrunners in each. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has a tally of 97, with 28 seats won and leading in 69 more. That tally already crosses the majority mark. Congress-led opposition holds a tally of 22, all from leads, while candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7. In West Bengal, BJP is out in front with a tally of 179, comprising 11 won seats and leads in 168, well past the majority mark of 148 in the 294-seat assembly. TMC trails with a tally of 106, drawn from 2 won seats and leads in 104. Candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively lead in 8 seats in the state. Puducherry, the smallest of the four assemblies at 30 seats with a majority mark of 16, has NDA on a tally of 18, with 13 seats already won and leading in 5 more, crossing the majority threshold. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 won and leading in 3. Candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in Puducherry. In Kerala, where 71 seats decide a majority in the 140-seat house, UDF leads the count with a tally of 87, having won 68 seats and leading in 19 others. LDF is trailing with a tally of 36, from 30 won seats and leads in 6. Candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively account for a tally of 17 in Kerala.
